My Story with Boudoir

I married the love of my life in the summer of 2024, and like many brides, I wanted to do something special for my husband. One of my dearest friends, who happens to be a photographer, offered to do a boudoir session for me so I could gift him an album on our wedding day. I declined. Why? Because I was self-conscious about my body and the thought of being photographed in such an intimate way felt embarrassing.

Then came the moment I’ll never forget: I jokingly mentioned to my husband that boudoir albums were a classic groom gift. His eyes lit up, and I realized in that instant how much it would mean to him. Even though I felt unsure of myself, I knew I wanted to given him something that he would never forget.

I rushed to order a Polaroid printer, hoping it would arrive before the wedding. Even then, I was still on the fence—should I take the photos myself or not? The printer arrived the day before the wedding. So, yes—I ended up posing, photographing, and printing the photos all by myself, wearing the outfit I’d wear the next night after becoming his wife. Let me tell you, it was a whirlwind—coming back from our welcome party, setting up my mini shoot in my hotel room, and snapping pictures.

When I looked at the photos, I was initially upset with myself for not going for professional shots, but surprisingly happy with how my cell phone pictures turned out. I placed them in a small album, and my maid of honor delivered it to him before our first look. He loved it.

Looking back, if I could change one thing about my wedding, it would have been to have professional boudoir photos taken. If you're thinking about giving your partner a similar gift, but the thought of doing the shoot makes you uncomfortable—hear me loud and clear: your man loves YOU, and that means ALL of you.
